When a contract is broken, a debt goes unpaid or a judgment needs to be appealed, Al-Amthal represents clients before the Egyptian courts at every level. The firm has litigated in Cairo since 1977, and its founder is admitted before the Court of Cassation and all Economic Courts.

Cases we take to court

We handle civil and commercial disputes for companies and individuals: unpaid invoices and loans, breach of supply and distribution contracts, partnership disputes, compensation claims, and claims over cheques and other commercial papers.

Many commercial disputes fall under the Economic Courts, created by Law No. 120 of 2008 to hear cases arising under specific economic laws, such as the company, banking, capital market and intellectual property laws. Other disputes go to the ordinary civil courts. Choosing the right court at the start saves months, and sometimes saves the case itself.

Court of Cassation lawyers, from first instance to final judgment

Every case starts with a meeting and a careful reading of the documents. We tell you plainly what the evidence supports, what the risks are, and roughly how long each stage takes. Where a settlement is the sensible course, we say so.

If we go to court, we prepare the claim or the defence, attend the hearings, ask for expert reports where needed, and follow the judgment through to enforcement. If the judgment is wrong, we appeal. An appeal to the Court of Cassation deals with errors of law and procedure, not a fresh look at the facts, and must be signed by a lawyer admitted before that Court. Counsellor Sayed Mahmoud Farghaly holds that admission, and Counsellors Mahmoud and Ahmed Sayed Farghaly appear before the Courts of Appeal.

Egyptian court cases for clients living abroad

Clients in Kuwait, the UAE and elsewhere often have a case in Egypt but cannot attend each hearing. A power of attorney issued at an Egyptian consulate allows us to act for you in Cairo, while you stay informed by phone, email or video. Our offices in Kuwait and Dubai offer legal consultations on these cases. We do not plead before Kuwaiti or Emirati courts, but we advise on the Egyptian side of any dispute that crosses borders.

Questions clients ask

How long does a commercial case take in Egypt?

It depends on the court, the number of hearings and whether the court appoints an expert. Economic Court cases are often faster than ordinary civil cases, but a first-instance judgment can still take many months, and an appeal adds more time. We give you a realistic estimate after reading the file, not before.

When can I appeal to the Court of Cassation?

The Court of Cassation reviews final judgments for errors in applying the law or in procedure. It does not examine the facts again. The appeal must be filed within a strict deadline from the judgment and signed by a lawyer admitted before the Court, which our founder is. Send us the judgment as soon as it is issued.

Can you handle my case in Egypt if I live in the Gulf?

Yes. You sign a power of attorney at the Egyptian consulate where you live, or in Egypt during a visit, and we act for you before the Egyptian courts. We report to you after each hearing and ask for your instructions on every important decision.
