If you or a family member are summoned, arrested or charged, the first hours matter. Al-Amthal's criminal lawyers in Cairo attend police and Public Prosecution questioning, prepare the defence for trial, and take the case to appeal and the Court of Cassation where needed. What you tell us stays confidential.
When to call a criminal lawyer in Cairo
Call us as soon as you receive a summons, learn that a complaint has been filed against you, or hear that a relative has been detained. Egyptian law gives an accused person the right to a lawyer during questioning. A lawyer present from the start can check that procedures are respected, ask for release, and stop small mistakes from becoming a fixed part of the file.
We defend individuals and company officers in a wide range of cases, including financial crimes such as fraud, breach of trust, cheque offences and forgery, as well as assault, drug and other criminal charges.
How we build a defence
We start by listening, then by reading everything available: the police report, the Public Prosecution's investigation file and any documents you hold. We look for the weak points in the accusation, such as an unlawful arrest or search, contradictions between witnesses, or gaps in the technical and expert evidence.
At trial we present the defence orally and in writing, put forward the evidence in your favour and challenge the evidence against you. If the judgment is not right, we appeal. Final criminal judgments can be challenged before the Court of Cassation on points of law, and our founder, Counsellor Sayed Mahmoud Farghaly, is admitted to plead there. We cannot promise an outcome, and no honest lawyer can. We can promise a careful and well-prepared defence.
Clients abroad and families in Egypt
When the accused or the family lives in Kuwait, the UAE or elsewhere in the Gulf, we keep them informed after every step and act on a power of attorney where the law allows. Questions such as whether a travel ban or a judgment issued in absence exists can often be checked in Egypt before you travel, and we explain the options before any decision is taken. We give consultations in Kuwait and Dubai on Egyptian criminal matters, in Arabic, English and German.

Questions clients ask
Do I need a lawyer at the Public Prosecution?
It is strongly advised. What you say at the Prosecution becomes part of the file the court reads later. A lawyer can attend with you, make sure your statements are recorded accurately, raise procedural objections and ask for your release. If you can, contact us before the questioning, not after it.
What should I do if a relative is arrested in Egypt?
Find out where he or she is held and which police station or Prosecution office has the case. Do not discuss the facts on the phone. Then call a criminal lawyer, who can attend the questioning, ask to see the detained person and request release. We act quickly in Cairo, including for families calling from abroad.
Can a criminal judgment be appealed in Egypt?
In most cases, yes. Judgments can be appealed to a higher court, and final criminal judgments can be challenged before the Court of Cassation for errors of law. Deadlines are short and run from the date of the judgment, so contact a lawyer immediately. We review the reasoning of the judgment and advise you on the grounds.
