A brand, a design or a piece of software can be worth more than a factory. Al-Amthal helps companies register trademarks in Egypt, protect copyright, license their rights and act against infringement. IP disputes in Egypt are heard by the Economic Courts, where our founder is admitted, and we advise on brand protection in the Gulf.
When you need a trademark lawyer in Egypt
Register a trademark before you launch, not after a competitor does. In Egypt, intellectual property is protected mainly by Law No. 82 of 2002, and registration with the Trademarks Office is the strongest basis for your rights in a mark. Before filing, a search should check whether a similar mark is already registered in the same class.
We also act for authors, software developers and media businesses on copyright, and for companies whose products, packaging or names are being copied. Trademark registration in Egypt must be renewed, and we track renewal dates so that protection does not lapse.
How we protect and enforce your rights
For a new mark, we run a search, advise on the classes to cover, file the application and follow it through examination and publication, including any opposition. For copyright, we advise on who owns commissioned work, on deposit where it helps, and on contracts with employees and freelancers.
When infringement happens, we collect evidence, send a formal warning and, where needed, ask the court for urgent measures such as the seizure of infringing goods, followed by a civil claim or a criminal complaint. Because these cases are heard by the Economic Courts, Counsellor Sayed Mahmoud Farghaly's admission before those courts and the Court of Cassation lets us follow a case to the end.
Gulf brands in Egypt and Egyptian brands abroad
Gulf companies entering the Egyptian market need their marks registered in Egypt before distributors or franchisees start using them. Egyptian companies expanding into the Gulf need to know how their brand will be protected there. We handle the Egyptian side directly, and give legal consultations and studies on protection in the Gulf through our offices in Kuwait and Dubai. We also draft licensing, franchise and distribution agreements that keep control of the brand with its owner. We work in Arabic, English and German.

Questions clients ask
How long does trademark registration take in Egypt?
It depends on the workload of the Trademarks Office and on whether the application meets objections or an opposition. The process includes examination, publication and a period in which third parties may oppose. We give you an estimate when we file and update you at each stage. A search before filing reduces the risk of refusal.
What can I do if someone copies my brand in Egypt?
Keep evidence of the copying, such as products, receipts, photographs and screenshots. We then send a formal warning and, if needed, ask the court for urgent measures and bring a civil or criminal case before the Economic Court. Acting quickly helps stop the copies from spreading in the market.
Does an Egyptian trademark protect my brand in the Gulf?
No. Trademark protection is territorial, so a mark registered in Egypt is protected in Egypt. To protect it in Kuwait, the UAE or Saudi Arabia, it must be registered there as well. We advise on a filing plan through our offices in Kuwait and Dubai, so that your brand is covered where you trade.
